About the position

CROWN Cork & Seal USA, Inc., a global leader in packaging products, is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to support operations within the Food Division. This position is crucial for the design, implementation, development, and improvement of manufacturing processes across eight manufacturing facilities. The successful candidate will analyze product and manufacturing methods to enhance efficiency and maintain quality and safety standards. This role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and collaboration with various teams to ensure the highest standards of manufacturing are met. The Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible for developing manufacturing processes by studying product requirements and conducting thorough research. This includes designing, modifying, and testing manufacturing methods and equipment. The engineer will evaluate existing processes, applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials to improve overall manufacturing efficiency. Quality assurance is a key component of this role, as the engineer will design test methods, test finished products, and confirm manufacturing processes to ensure compliance with established standards. In addition to technical responsibilities, the Manufacturing Engineer will provide critical decision-making information regarding production, labor, and material costs. Collaboration with external sources for tooling design and production will also be a significant part of the role. The position requires approximately 60 to 80% travel, and candidates must reside near a major airport in the Midwest to Eastern United States. This is a remote traveling position, allowing for flexibility while supporting the Food Division's operations.

Responsibilities

  • Develop manufacturing processes by studying product requirements, researching, designing, modifying, and testing manufacturing methods and equipment.
  • Evaluate manufacturing processes by designing and conducting research, applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials.
  • Improve manufacturing efficiency by analyzing processes and manufacturing methods.
  • Assure product and process quality by designing test methods, testing finished product and process capabilities, establishing standards, confirming manufacturing processes.
  • Provide manufacturing decision making information by calculating production, labor, and material costs.
  • Collaborate with outside sources for tooling design, design simulation, and tooling production as needed.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering
  • Minimum of five (5) years manufacturing experience in positions of increasing responsibility.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in high-speed metal packaging related to the manufacture or use of Beverage, Food or Aerosol packaging
  • Six Sigma certification in Green Belt or beyond
  • Strong project management skills
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced manufacturing operation.
  • Demonstrated employee relations skills and the ability to motivate people
  • Experience developing, building and maintaining strong business partnerships.
