About the position

The Manufacturing Process Engineer at The Ohio State University will play a crucial role in the Battery Cell Research and Demonstration Center, focusing on the design, implementation, and optimization of manufacturing processes for battery cell production. This position involves collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure high-quality production while prioritizing safety and efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement manufacturing processes for battery cell production.
  • Troubleshoot manufacturing issues and collaborate with teams to resolve them.
  • Conduct experiments and perform data analysis to optimize process parameters.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement solutions.
  • Evaluate and select equipment for battery cell processing and assembly.
  • Coordinate equipment installation, commissioning, and validation activities.
  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for equipment operation.
  • Implement quality control measures and inspection protocols.
  • Prepare reports and presentations to communicate findings and recommendations.
  • Mentor and train students and junior staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, materials science, chemical engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in manufacturing process engineering, preferably in the battery or energy storage industry.
  • Knowledge of battery chemistries, materials, and cell designs.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and equipment used in battery cell production.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and statistical tools for process optimization.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot technical issues.
  • Effective communication skills for collaboration with cross-functional teams.

Nice-to-haves

  • 4-8 years of relevant experience.
  • Master's degree or higher in engineering or a related field.
  • Experience with scale-up and commercialization of manufacturing processes.
  • Familiarity with quality management systems and regulatory requirements for battery manufacturing.
  • Hands-on experience with process simulation software and modeling tools.
  • Experience with Six Sigma, Lean manufacturing, or other continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Strong understanding of battery manufacturing safety protocols.
