About the position

The Manufacturing Project Engineer at Northrop Grumman is responsible for overseeing International Design to Production Transition Programs within the Defense Sector. This role involves planning and executing engineering projects, ensuring that design factors such as cost, schedule, and technical performance are met. The position requires strong communication skills, project management capabilities, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. The engineer will lead a small team, manage multiple projects, and interact with both internal and external stakeholders to ensure successful project outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure design factors such as contractual, environmental, cost, schedule, technical performance, system integration, producibility, interchangeability, and material requirements are considered during development and program execution.
  • Work with design, project, manufacturing, and quality engineers to ensure timely flow of information among team members.
  • Direct daily work activities for a small team of engineers (5-7).
  • Develop schedules and provide oversight for several concurrent small internal projects.
  • Collaborate with systems engineering and QMS processes to apply proper rigor throughout the engineering lifecycle.
  • Support Engineering/Program Manager as a control account manager for accurate schedule and cost tracking.
  • Present work products at program reviews, proposals, or other project meetings.
  • Prepare and plan cost estimates and written technical proposals.
  • Act as a technical interface to external customers and build working relationships with external technical organizations.
  • Support manufacturing trade studies and early supplier involvement.
  • Demonstrate project management skills including work breakdown structures, integrated master scheduling, and earned value management.
  • Write statements of work and estimate project scope.
  • Step into other roles when needed.

Requirements

  • 6 years of experience in manufacturing and production of mechanical components and/or systems.
  • 2+ years of Project Engineering experience.
  • Small team leadership experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Engineering or related STEM area.
  • 10 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience managing or leading projects and/or people.
  • Familiarity with Design of Equipment, Tooling, Process Development and Manufacturing Process.
  • Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Fluency in MS Office software applications.
