About the position

The Manufacturing Quality Engineer at UCT plays a crucial role in ensuring the quality and reliability of manufacturing processes for semiconductor wafer fabrication equipment. This position involves working closely with suppliers to develop and audit quality control systems, conduct technical audits, and drive improvements in manufacturing capabilities. The engineer will also interface with internal teams to address quality issues and provide training to suppliers, contributing to the overall success of the semiconductor industry.

Responsibilities

  • Provide expertise in manufacturing processes for mechanical and electrical components such as structural frames, sheet metals, welding, and precise machined parts.
  • Ensure suppliers' manufacturing processes are in place to produce reliable products in a repeatable manner; develop and audit quality control systems.
  • Conduct supplier technical/quality process audits and risk assessments and drive closure on improvement actions.
  • Conduct supplier assessments with emphasis on manufacturing capabilities and quality management systems of new and existing suppliers.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to complete periodic supplier scorecards and drive improvement.
  • Drive failure analysis on non-conformance materials caused by suppliers and closure on non-conformance reports.
  • Drive first article qualification at supplier by providing technical expertise.
  • Manage supplier or product qualification projects and provide regular updates to management.
  • Provide supplier quality executive summary monthly to management.
  • Interface with internal customers on quality issues and actively participate in failure analysis and corrective action efforts.
  • Provide technical/quality training to suppliers.
  • Frequent travel to suppliers for on-site audits and meetings.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent in experience.
  • 7+ years related experience in high-technology manufacturing, preferably in semiconductor capital equipment or related industry.
  • Hands-on experience with ISO 9001 or equivalent quality management systems and tools.
  • Experience in or knowledge of standard fabrication practices of structural frame, sheet metal fabrication, and precision machining process (Aluminum /Stainless Steel).
  • Expertise in mechanical drawing interpretation using ASME Y14.5 (Dimensioning & Tolerancing).
  • Hands-on experience in supplier assessment, qualification, audit, and quality management.
  • Strong project management skills are required.
  • Hands-on knowledge of problem-solving methodologies (8D, 5 why's, DOE, PFMEA, etc.) and quality engineering experience is required.
  • Working knowledge in the use and application of SPC.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Software - Excel, Word, and PowerPoint are required.
  • Working knowledge in the application of Lean/Six Sigma.

Nice-to-haves
