About the position

The Manufacturing Site Director role at Land O'Lakes, Inc. is responsible for overseeing the Melrose, MN facility, ensuring excellence in safety, quality, sanitation, cost management, customer service, cheesemaking, and employee relations. This position drives performance improvements to meet business targets and supports growth, while also being accountable for cheesemaking, cheese quality, and plant asset utilization. The director will develop and execute the site budget, manage resources for profitability, and foster a positive work environment that encourages continuous improvement and diversity.

Responsibilities

  • Provide overall direction for the Melrose facility in safety, quality, sanitation, cost, customer service, cheesemaking, and employee relations.
  • Drive improved performance in all areas to meet business targets and support growth.
  • Accountable for cheesemaking, cheese quality, and plant asset utilization.
  • Develop and execute the site budget within corporate guidelines.
  • Manage plant resources to optimize profitability and meet customer expectations.
  • Create a positive work environment that supports continuous improvement and reinforces company policies.
  • Develop the skills and capabilities of both salaried and hourly team members.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of progressive food/dairy manufacturing experience with proven leadership qualities.
  • Bachelor's degree in Science/Food Science, Agriculture, Business Administration, Engineering, or related field.
  • Demonstrated success in managing positive employee relations.
  • Dairy experience is required; cheese processing experience is highly desired.
  • Ability to develop strategic plans and implement actions for the site.
  • Proven track record with manufacturing transformation/change management.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in a related field.
  • Progressive manufacturing experience in cheddar cheesemaking, dairy, or food-related industries.
  • Lean/Continuous Improvement certifications.
  • Demonstrated success in LEAN/Six Sigma/TMM.
  • Prior experience managing a 24/7, 365 manufacturing facility.
