About the position

The position involves leading cost reduction initiatives and manufacturing excellence projects, specifically focusing on 6Sigma methodologies. The role requires improving process yields and machine uptime while ensuring that product quality meets the required standards through effective engineering activities. The candidate will enhance shop floor organization using 5S methodology and lead continuous improvement initiatives, participating in Lean and 6Sigma activities. Additionally, the role includes ensuring that process instructions, control plans, FMEAs, and other quality documentation are updated as necessary. The candidate will identify and implement corrective and preventive actions to meet customer requirements and will have the authority to stop any shipment suspected of containing non-conforming products. Training of operatives and providing process engineering input for RFQs and capacity planning in a timely manner are also key responsibilities. The position requires maintaining and updating tool inventory, raising documentation for new tools, optimizing tool design for productivity, and leading the qualification and introduction of new processes and machines in the manufacturing area. The candidate will address engineering-related concerns raised through the anomaly system, participate in Gemba walks and stand-up meetings, and ensure compliance with Environment, Health, and Safety instructions. Reporting any hazards, near misses, or incidents to area management is crucial, as is adherence to area protocols regarding dress code, entrance/exit procedures, and other internal policies.

Responsibilities

  • Lead cost reduction initiatives and Manufacturing excellence/ 6Sigma projects
  • Improve process yields and machine uptime
  • Ensure product quality is kept to the required standard through effective engineering activities
  • Enhance shop floor organisation through 5S methodology
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives and participate in Lean and 6Sigma activities
  • Ensure that Process Instructions, Control Plans, FMEA's and other quality documentation are updated as required
  • Identify and implement corrective and preventive actions to ensure customer requirements are met
  • Stop any shipment from being sent to customer that is suspected to contain non-conforming product
  • Conduct training of operatives where required
  • Provide process engineering related input for RFQ's and capacity planning in a timely manner
  • Maintain and update tool inventory where required
  • Raise required documentation to order new tools
  • Optimise tool design to improve productivity and yield
  • Lead qualification and introduction of new processes and machines in manufacturing area
  • Address engineering related concerns raised through the anomaly system
  • Participate in 'Gemba' walks and stand up meetings as required
  • Ensure all Environment, Health and Safety instructions are implemented
  • Ensure safety performance is adequately communicated
  • Participate in risk reduction plans
  • Ensure compliance with the requirements of the ISO14001 environment management system and the ISO45001 occupational health and safety management system
  • Report any hazards / near misses / incidents to area management immediately
  • Adhere to area protocols regarding dress code, entrance / exit procedures, and other internal policies.

Requirements

  • Graduate in Mechanical / Electrical Engineering
  • Proactive, practical and hands on approach
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Maltese
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work in a team and maintain relationships both internal and external
  • Ability to work on own initiative.
