About the position

The Manufacturing Tech Engineer at the J.R. Simplot Company plays a crucial role in providing daily IT delivery and support for technology primarily at a Simplot Factory. This position encompasses a wide range of responsibilities, including managing servers, desktop hardware and software, networking and communications equipment, and factory technologies. The engineer will follow IT center-led processes and standards to ensure effective support and maintenance of existing and new technology solutions, primarily focusing on infrastructure. In this role, the Manufacturing Tech Engineer will provide support for infrastructure, applications, and systems, which includes voice communication systems, network services, server and desktop hardware maintenance, application support, and security administration. The engineer will manage service requests and change requests, collaborating with other IT professionals and management as necessary. The position requires the ability to handle unique situations and make informed decisions on complex business issues, often providing mentoring and guidance to lower-level employees. The engineer will act as an expert, offering direction and guidance for process improvements and policy establishment, while frequently representing the site organization to the global IT organization. The Manufacturing Tech Engineer will apply intermediate to expert-level subject matter knowledge to solve a variety of common business issues, working on problems and projects of moderately complex scope. The role requires independent judgment within defined parameters to determine appropriate actions and develop expertise in applications within the business environment. The engineer will evaluate unique circumstances and collaborate with applicable IT teams to make informed recommendations, contributing to the overall success of the IT department and the organization as a whole.

Responsibilities

  • Implements end-user technology, enterprise infrastructure, applications or services of moderate to advanced complexity, partnering with other business or IT engineering teams on more complex solutions.
  • Applies technical knowledge to operate, administer and support infrastructure or software platforms and user groups of moderate to advanced complexity.
  • Partners with factory site engineers, management, global IT or members of a given team as appropriate.
  • Performs intermediate to advanced analysis of functional or service requirements using fundamental understanding of IT Business process or problems.
  • Can independently resolve some highly complex technical issues within a given technical area.
  • Identifies potential escalations and proactively alerts management.
  • Provides solutions to prevent problems from occurring in area of responsibility including patch management.
  • Reviews, implements and verifies changes/solutions of intermediate to advanced complexity and risk.
  • Ensures configuration management to applicable systems are complete and accurate.
  • Participates as a member of an IT technical team or teams.
  • May act as an Incident coordinator or subject matter expert to provide resolution for complex issues.
  • Represents global IT team to local site(s).
  • Demonstrates technical leadership, and exerts influence outside of immediate team.
  • Collaborates with other teams on innovative technology solutions, primarily for manufacturing sites and partnering with global IT on innovative solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent education and experience may be considered.
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience in IT support and infrastructure management.
  • Strong experience with infrastructure environments including operating systems, hardware, data center, security, network, voice, and end-user/server applications.
  • Strong experience with business IT applications such as supply chain, customer relationship management, HR, and finance.
  • Experience in scripting and/or programming languages.
  • Foundational knowledge and experience with Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) reference model.
  • Experience interfacing with vendors for support and maintenance.
