Located in the greater Boston area, our diverse team of engineers collaborates to design, test, and build a dynamic fleet of robots and mechatronic systems. The co-location of our offices, labs, test floors, and factories allows for rapid innovation and the realization of limitless ideas. We are currently advancing in areas such as autonomous movement, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and predictive analytics. The Manufacturing Test Development Engineer will play a crucial role within the Robotics Manufacturing Technical Operations team, reporting to the Manager of NPI Test Development. This position focuses on manufacturing test development and support for robotic manipulation applications, utilizing robotic arms like Fanuc and ABB, as well as custom end-of-arm tools and power distribution systems. The engineer will collaborate closely with engineering, production, test engineers, and external vendors to ensure the delivery of high-quality products at the lowest cost. In this role, the engineer will be responsible for developing and implementing manufacturing test strategies, documenting test procedures and specifications, guiding the design of automated test solutions, and writing programs to control test equipment. The engineer will also evaluate product engineering changes and support end-of-line test stations at local contract manufacturers. A commitment to promoting a safe working environment is essential, as is the ability to travel up to 30% for the role.

Responsibilities

  • Actively foster and drive a culture of inclusion.
  • Develop or implement manufacturing test strategies and solutions for robotic manipulation applications.
  • Document test procedures, test specifications, and acceptance criteria for new and current products.
  • Guide and implement the design of automated test solutions, including electrical interfaces, interface test adapters, and software.
  • Propose design changes that will enhance product manufacturability and testability.
  • Write programs to control test equipment and devices under test using standard software tools.
  • Evaluate and approve product electrical Engineering Changes Orders (ECOs).
  • Support EOL test stations at local contract manufacturers and system integrators.
  • Persistently promote a safe working environment by following all safety procedures.

Requirements

  • BS degree or equivalent in Electrical, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 5+ years of related work experience in a fast-paced manufacturing/test engineering focused environment.
  • Experience with debugging industrial robots such as Fanuc, Rockwell, Siemens PLCs, IO-Link based control systems.
  • Functional knowledge of one or more programming languages (LabVIEW/MATLAB/Python or similar).
  • Demonstrated expertise in test strategy development, ability to define test requirements, and implement manufacturing EOL test solutions to support NPI programs.
  • Working knowledge of basic electrical equipment, electro-mechanical controls, power systems (1ph/3ph AC/24-48VDC systems).
  • Experience with reading and debugging with electrical schematics.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in Electrical, Robotics or Mechatronics Engineering.
  • Working knowledge of Electrical & Safety Standards, functional safety systems for industrial controls.
  • Experience in support or maintenance in manufacturing or field sustaining environment.
  • Experience developing & maintaining Automated Test Systems using LabVIEW/TestStand, Python, MATLAB/Simulink or equivalent tools.
  • Experience with PLCs, networking, and wireless computer systems.
  • Knowledge of state-of-the-art automated test equipment and test fixture design.
  • Excellent business communication skills.
