About the position

The Manufacturing Test Engineer at Square plays a crucial role in ensuring that hardware devices meet design specifications and customer expectations. This position involves designing, building, and supporting test stations for complex products, collaborating with various engineering teams, and utilizing a diverse skill set to solve manufacturing challenges.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build and support board-level and product-level performance and functional testers
  • Write and debug test station software
  • Analyze measurements from test stations and provide feedback to hardware design teams
  • Become familiar with Square's hardware products and manufacturing processes
  • Research technologies for next-generation hardware products
  • Develop test plans and test-setup prototypes for new technologies
  • Collaborate with Electrical Engineering to ensure products are designed for testability
  • Work with Software Engineering to specify requirements for embedded test access and APIs
  • Identify opportunities to improve Square's products beyond Manufacturing Test

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience working in a technical field
  • Proficiency in Python, MATLAB, Labview, or similar programming language
  • Knowledge in statistics and experience using SQL, JMP, Matplotlib, or similar data visualization program
  • Experience with hardware lab equipment for test, measurement, and/or prototyping (e.g. oscilloscope, power supply, DMM)
  • Strong engineering problem-solving skills
  • Effective communication skills to diverse audiences
  • Willingness to travel internationally, up to 15% as needed

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience reading and understanding electronics circuit diagrams and schematics
  • Familiarity with board-level (SMT) and product-level (FATP) electronics manufacturing processes
  • Experience performing analog measurements (RF, acoustic, optical) including calibration and control of systematic errors
  • Experience managing contract manufacturing test engineering partners
  • Experience driving yield and cycle time optimizations
  • Experience writing clear reports (Build Reports, Station Issue Lists, SOPs)
