About the position

The Map Operations Coordinator plays a crucial role in enhancing the customer experience for those renting Extra Space storage units remotely. This position involves creating and maintaining digital maps of the company's properties, which are essential for helping customers locate their units on-site. As the company expands its online rental capabilities, the importance of accurate and user-friendly maps will only increase. The coordinator will also be responsible for updating the layouts of the facilities to reflect any changes or new constructions. In this temporary role, lasting approximately 4 to 5 months, the coordinator will work closely with various teams to ensure that the maps are accurate and up-to-date. This includes ingesting feedback from stores, managing the workload to prioritize the most critical map edits, and confirming new building layouts and unit attributes with district and store managers. The coordinator will act as a liaison between the map partner and the stores, ensuring that all parties are aligned and that new maps are ready for public access when new facilities open. The role requires a strong attention to detail, as the coordinator will need to revise existing Adobe Illustrator documents and analyze data in Excel. Collaboration with internal resources across the country is essential, as is adherence to the company's visual brand design guidelines. The coordinator will also be expected to present progress updates to their supervisor regularly, ensuring transparency and accountability in the map editing and creation process.

Responsibilities

  • Ingest map feedback from stores and clarify requests to ensure edits are made properly
  • Manage incoming workload to ensure the highest priority maps are edited first and management has visibility into progress and team bandwidth
  • Confirm with District Manager and Store Manager new building layouts and unit sizes and attributes
  • Serve as a go-between with our map partner and our stores
  • Work with various departments within Extra Space to coordinate the creation of new maps in advance of new storage facilities opening to the public
  • Present to team supervisor on the progress of map edits and creation

Requirements

  • Experience with Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop
  • Familiarity with building, interpreting and editing spreadsheets
  • Background in graphic design, web design, or illustration desired but not required
  • Experience in a customer-service oriented role desired
  • Strong communication skills
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience preferred
