About the position

The Marine Cargo Surveyor at Sedgwick is responsible for inspecting cargo that has been damaged during transit, determining the nature and extent of the damages, and providing detailed reports to underwriters and other stakeholders. This role involves overseeing the loading and unloading of cargo, inspecting damaged ships, and ensuring quality standards are met. The position offers flexibility as it can be based remotely in the Los Angeles or Long Beach, CA areas.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect cargo damaged in transit and determine the nature, cause, and extent of damages.
  • Review documents to ascertain when the cargo was damaged.
  • Provide written reports to underwriters and other parties regarding the cause of loss.
  • Oversee the loading and unloading of cargo from ships and other forms of transit to document damages.
  • Inspect damaged ships to determine the cause and amount of damage resulting from collisions or motor failures.
  • Support the organization's quality program(s).
  • Travel as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university preferred.
  • Five (5) years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to meet or exceed performance competencies.
