About the position

The Marine Electrical Corporate Trainer at Northeast Wisconsin Technical College is responsible for designing and delivering customized electrical training programs aimed at preparing students for careers in marine electrical systems. This role emphasizes continuous improvement in instructional quality and student success, aligning with the college's mission and values. The trainer will engage in curriculum development, student advising, and community involvement, while also committing to ongoing professional growth and collaboration with industry leaders.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver customized electrical training for installing wiring systems on naval vessels.
  • Manage the training process, including curriculum review and development, and student advising.
  • Train in various courses including basic electronics, digital electronics, motor controls, PLCs, and more.
  • Provide Electro-Mechanical training tailored to manufacturing organizations in flexible environments.
  • Respond to emergency situations to resolve immediate safety concerns.
  • Revise curriculum to include multicultural perspectives and meet industry standards.
  • Utilize engaging instructional strategies to foster student success.
  • Provide consistent feedback to students to improve their performance.
  • Use data to measure quality outcomes and design improvement strategies.
  • Comply with college policies related to instruction and assessment.
  • Participate in community events to promote college programs and enhance relationships.
  • Engage in team meetings and contribute to strategic planning and budget requests.
  • Maintain knowledge of emerging trends and occupational practices through networking and professional development.

Requirements

  • Minimum of four years of current Marine Electrical shipyard experience.
  • Knowledge of IEE Std 45 recommended practices for electrical installation shipboard.
  • Familiarity with CFR-46 Code of Federal Regulations, Subchapter J Electrical Engineering.
  • Knowledge of ABS American Bureau of Rules for steel and aluminum vessels.
  • Understanding of Mil-Std 2003B for electrical plant installations on surface ships and submarines.
  • Knowledge of non-neutral three, two-, and single-phase power systems.
  • Understanding of Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) and Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP) effects.
  • Familiarity with Mil-Std-1310G/1310H for bonding and grounding.
  • Knowledge of ship and shipyard terminology.
  • Familiarity with NEC (National Electrical Code).
  • Ability to work non-standard hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Previous teaching experience with adult learners is desired.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
