About the position

The Marine Exhaust CAD Drafter is responsible for creating precise technical drawings and 3D models of exhaust systems used in marine vessels. This role requires collaboration with marine engineers and designers to ensure that designs meet safety, functionality, and compliance with maritime regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Design and Draft Marine Exhaust Systems: Develop detailed 2D drawings and 3D models of marine exhaust systems, including piping, manifolds, silencers, and other exhaust components, based on specifications from engineering teams.
  • Collaborate with Engineering Teams: Work closely with marine engineers and designers to understand system requirements, incorporate necessary revisions, and ensure designs meet performance, safety, and environmental standards.
  • Ensure Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all designs adhere to industry standards and regulations from bodies such as the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), International Maritime Organization (IMO), and other regulatory authorities related to emissions, noise control, and safety.
  • Revise and Update Drawings: Modify existing drawings to incorporate changes in design specifications, materials, or feedback from stakeholders. Ensure all revisions are clearly documented and integrated.
  • Assist with Prototype and Production Support: Provide accurate drawings and technical support during prototyping and production phases to help resolve design issues and ensure manufacturing feasibility.
  • Maintain Accurate Documentation: Organize and manage a repository of drawings, revisions, and related documentation for easy access and reference.

Requirements

  • CAD Proficiency: Advanced skills in CAD software, such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or other industry-specific tools. Familiarity with 3D modeling and rendering is highly advantageous.
  • Knowledge of Marine Exhaust Systems: Understanding of marine exhaust systems' design, function, and compliance requirements.
  • Familiarity with Industry Standards: Knowledge of relevant industry standards and regulations governing marine exhaust systems, emissions, and safety.
  • Attention to Detail: Ability to create highly accurate and detailed technical drawings, with an understanding of tolerance, materials, and the impact on manufacturing.
  • Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: Capability to analyze and solve design challenges, especially those related to layout, fit, and functionality in constrained vessel spaces.
  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written skills to collaborate effectively with engineers, designers, and production teams.
  • Educational Background: An associate's or bachelor's degree in CAD, engineering, or a related technical field is often required, with coursework in marine engineering or systems design preferred.
  • Experience: Prior experience in marine drafting or working with exhaust systems is advantageous, with specific industry experience often preferred for senior roles.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of emissions standards, including IMO Tier III and EPA regulations.
  • Experience with marine ventilation systems.
  • Familiarity with noise reduction and exhaust optimization techniques.
