About the position

We are seeking a full-time Field Service Engineer - Marine near our Seattle, WA location. In this role, you will be responsible for providing installation, technical support, and training on Garmin and Fusion Entertainment Marine products to boat OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers), OEM dealers, and installation dealers. You will become highly knowledgeable in the specifications, capabilities, and operation of Garmin products, with an emphasis on Garmin Marine and Fusion Entertainment products. Additionally, you will need to be well-versed in boat systems, automotive electrical systems, and Marine OEMs. Your responsibilities will include traveling to customer facilities to provide regular on-site support of Marine Installations, as well as providing training on the correct installation, calibration, setup, and operation of Garmin Marine and Fusion Entertainment products. You will also assist in troubleshooting any problems with these products and create regular monthly reports on the support provided. Accompanying Sales personnel on OEM and dealer sales calls may also be required, along with assisting in the specification of Garmin or Fusion Entertainment products for sales quotes. You will be expected to answer customer and installer technical inquiries regarding Garmin and Fusion Entertainment products, monitor, document, and report failure trends in the equipment, and identify and recommend improvements in products, documentation, and procedures. Reviewing owner's manuals, installation manuals, and maintenance manuals for completeness and technical accuracy will also be part of your duties. Communication with Product Support and Warranty to identify problems occurring in the field and relating these back to the Field Service Engineer Team is essential. You will represent Garmin and Fusion Entertainment as required and gather and communicate new product information to Field Service Engineers as needed. As a technical representative, you will ensure installations meet Garmin standards for quality and functionality while respecting the rules and policies of the OEM while onsite. You will provide on-site support of Marine OEM Installations and troubleshooting in a manufacturing environment, verify reported defective products at the Customer's facility, and train customer's associates in the installation and operation of Garmin Marine and Fusion Entertainment equipment. Meeting all production needs related to Garmin, including coordinating schedules with the production line and sea trials, will be crucial, as well as maintaining communication with Garmin headquarters by documenting and completing reports on the work performed and reporting failures/tracking trends. The ability to travel up to 70% of the time is required.

Responsibilities

  • Become highly knowledgeable in the specifications, capabilities, and operation of Garmin products, with emphasis on Garmin Marine and Fusion Entertainment products
  • Be highly knowledgeable in boat systems, automotive electrical systems, and Marine OEMs
  • Travel to customer facilities to provide regular on-site support of Marine Installations
  • Provide training on correct installation, calibration, set-up and operation of Garmin Marine and Fusion Entertainment products and create written procedures
  • Assist in troubleshooting any problems with Garmin Marine and Fusion Entertainment products and create regular monthly reports on the regular on-site support
  • Accompany Sales personnel on OEM and dealer sales calls, as needed, as well as assist the specification of Garmin or Fusion Entertainment products for sales quotes

  • Represent Garmin and Fusion Entertainment as required
  • Gather and communicate to Field Service Engineers new product information including set up, product specification, etc. as required
  • Serve as a Garmin technical representative to ensure installations meet Garmin standards for quality and functionality
  • Respect and observe the rules and policies of the OEM while onsite and maintain professional and courteous demeanor with all OEM associates
  • Provide on-site support of Marine OEM Installations and troubleshooting in a manufacturing environment
  • Verify reported defective products at Customer's facility
  • Train customer's associates in the installation and operation of Garmin Marine, Fusion Entertainment equipment and other related items
  • Meet all of productions needs related to Garmin including coordinating schedule with the production line and sea trials, taking care of problems that arise, and adjust priorities at a moment's notice
  • Maintain communication with Garmin headquarters including documenting and completing reports on the work performed and reporting failures/tracking trends

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent Military/Trade school training OR a minimum of 4 years relevant experience
  • Minimum of 4 years work experience performing marine audio AND/OR electronic equipment installation/troubleshooting
  • Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills and a superior customer-oriented attitude
  • Demonstrated proficiency using personal computers and software applications, including Microsoft Word & Outlook
  • Positive, detail/quality oriented, organized, analytical, team oriented and a driven problem solver
  • Ability to multi-task and self-start with the ability to prioritize in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment with excellent time management and follow-up skills

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous experience in a Marine OEM, or installing Marine electronics at a dealer facility
