About the position

The Marine Inspector/Surveyor role at SGS involves inspecting various types of cargo on seagoing vessels. The inspector will conduct visual and physical inspections, witness loading and unloading processes, and review shipping documentation to ensure compliance with client specifications and safety regulations. This position requires issuing reports of findings within specific time limits and operates on an as-needed basis under a contractor agreement.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct visual and physical inspections of cargo on seagoing vessels.
  • Witness the loading and unloading of cargo and verify shipping documentation.
  • Ensure cargo and packaging comply with client specifications for seaworthiness.
  • Issue reports of findings within specified time limits after inspections.
  • Maintain accurate records and invoices for completed inspections.

Requirements

  • Valid TWIC Card is required.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in cargo inspections.
  • Master Mariner certification or similar qualifications is a plus.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including grammar and composition.
  • Strong time management skills and attention to detail.
