About the position

THOR Solutions is seeking a Mid-Level Marine Mechanical Engineer (Propulsion) to support the United States Coast Guard's Ship Design Team in Baltimore, MD. The role involves providing technical support and documentation for marine vessels, focusing on propulsion systems and machinery arrangements. The ideal candidate will have experience in ship propulsion and control systems, as well as familiarity with U.S. Federal or commercial shipbuilding standards.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical support and documentation for marine vessels and ship machinery.
• Research and develop ship propulsion systems including diesels, gas turbines, and associated components.
• Develop system documentation and ship specifications.
• Conduct analyses of propulsion systems and lead the development of technical data packages.
• Conduct trade studies regarding ship configuration.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Marine or Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution.
• 3 to 5 years of progressive experience in Marine Mechanical fields.
• At least 3 years of documented experience with developing ship propulsion and control systems.
• Familiarity with ABS, NVR, and commercial ship design rules and regulations.
• Experience with U.S. Federal or commercial shipbuilding acquisition programs preferred.
• Proficient with common productivity software.
• Strong communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience related to DoD ACAT I or DHS Level I shipbuilding programs preferred.
