About the position

As a Marine/RV Audio Field Service Engineer 2 at Garmin, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the successful installation, operation, and troubleshooting of Garmin audio products in marine and RV environments. Your expertise will be essential in providing on-site support to customers, which includes training on the correct installation, calibration, and operation of Garmin audio products. You will become highly knowledgeable about Garmin's specifications, capabilities, and the operation of their products, particularly focusing on audio systems. Your responsibilities will also include traveling to customer facilities to provide regular on-site support for installations, assisting in troubleshooting any issues that arise with Garmin audio products, and creating detailed reports on your findings and support activities. You will work closely with sales personnel during OEM and dealer sales calls, helping to specify Garmin audio products for sales quotes and addressing technical inquiries from customers and installers. In addition to your technical skills, you will be expected to monitor and document failure trends in Garmin audio equipment, recommend improvements, and ensure that all documentation, including owner's manuals and installation guides, is complete and technically accurate. You will maintain communication with Garmin headquarters, documenting your work and reporting any failures or trends you observe in the field. Your role will require you to respect the rules and policies of the OEM while maintaining a professional demeanor with all associates. Overall, this position is vital for enhancing customer satisfaction and ensuring the reliability of Garmin audio products in marine and RV applications.

Responsibilities

  • Become highly knowledgeable in the specifications, capabilities, and operation of Garmin products, with emphasis on Garmin audio products
  • Be highly knowledgeable in boat systems, automotive electrical systems, and Marine OEMs
  • Travel to customer facilities to provide regular on-site support of Marine or RV Installations
  • Provide training on correct installation, calibration, set-up and operation of Garmin audio products and create written procedures
  • Assist in troubleshooting any problems with Garmin audio products and create regular monthly reports on the regular on-site support
  • Accompany Sales personnel on OEM and dealer sales calls, as needed, as well as assist the specification of Garmin audio products for sales quotes
  • Answer customer and installer technical inquiries regarding Garmin audio products
  • Monitor, document, and report failure trends in Garmin audio equipment
  • Identify and recommend improvements in Garmin audio products, documentation, and procedures
  • Review owner's manuals, installation manuals, and maintenance manuals for completeness, technical accuracy, and areas likely to be misinterpreted
  • Communicate with Product Support and Warranty to identify problems that are occurring in the field and relate these problems and solutions back to the FSE Team
  • Gather and communicate to Field Service Engineers new product information including set up, product specification, etc. as required
  • Respect and observe the rules and policies of the OEM while onsite and maintain professional and courteous demeanor with all OEM associates
  • Provide on-site support of Garmin audio installations and troubleshooting in a manufacturing environment
  • Verify reported defective products at Customer's facility
  • Train customer's associates in the installation and operation of Garmin audio equipment and other related items
  • Maintain communication with Garmin headquarters including documenting and completing reports on the work performed and reporting failures/tracking trends

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent Military/Trade school training OR a minimum of 4 years relevant experience
  • Minimum of 4 years work experience performing marine, audio AND/OR RV electronic equipment installation/troubleshooting
  • Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills and a superior customer-oriented attitude
  • Demonstrated proficiency using personal computers and software applications, including Microsoft Word & Outlook
  • Positive, detail/quality oriented, organized, analytical, team oriented and a driven problem solver
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment with excellent time management and follow-up skills

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous experience in a Marine OEM, RV OEM, or installing dealer facility
