About the position

Moffatt & Nichol is actively seeking a Senior Marine Structural Engineer with 10 to 15 years of experience to join our Seattle, Federal Way, or Vancouver, WA offices. This position is integral to our team, focusing on the management, supervision, and training of junior structural engineering staff. The successful candidate will lead engineering, planning, design, and analysis activities for waterfront, port, and maritime infrastructure projects. As a recognized leader in large complex waterfront infrastructure projects, Moffatt & Nichol offers a dynamic work environment where innovation and excellence are paramount. In this role, you will be responsible for leading and managing projects, which includes preparing cost estimates, budgets, scheduling, and documentation. You will recommend contracting strategies and provide construction support, ensuring that design problems are resolved effectively, which may involve performing field investigations or inspections. Your expertise in structural analysis will be crucial as you design detailed plans and conduct finite element static and dynamic structural modeling of various structures. You will also prepare design concepts, specifications, schedules, and cost estimates, while coordinating plan details with drafting technicians and overseeing the work of CAD designers and technicians. Mentoring junior staff will be a key aspect of your role, fostering their professional growth and ensuring the quality of work produced by the team. The position requires strong communication skills, both verbal and written, as you will be developing and maintaining client relationships and presenting project updates. The majority of your work will be office-based, but some site visits may be required, necessitating navigation of unpaved or natural terrain while carrying equipment. Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage projects, including cost estimates, budgets, scheduling, and documentation preparation, support and evaluation
  • Recommend contracting strategies
  • Provide construction support
  • Resolve design problems that may include performing field investigation or inspection
  • Design detailed plans and structural analysis
  • Perform finite element static and dynamic structural modeling of structures
  • Prepare design concepts, specifications, schedules, and cost estimates
  • Calculate quantity estimates
  • Coordinate plan details with drafting technicians
  • Prepare inspection reports as needed
  • Work closely with other disciplines on multi-discipline projects
  • Oversee work of CAD designers, technicians, and other engineers' work
  • Mentor junior staff

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering; required
  • Master's Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering; required
  • PE registration; required
  • SE registration or ability to obtain SE; preferred
  • 10 to 15 years of related waterfront structural experience in engineering design and project management; required
  • Proven ability to implement and manage both small and large scale projects
  • Proven success in leading people and managing resources
  • Strong communication (verbal, written and presentation) skills
  • Experience in developing and maintaining client relationships
  • Must be willing and able to travel for projects
  • Possession of or eligibility to obtain a Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC)
  • Academy of Coastal, Ocean, Port & Navigation Engineers (ACOPNE) certification in the Port Engineering category is preferred

Benefits

  • Base Salary Range: $131,500 to $160,500 based on years of experience, level of education obtained, professional registration, and meeting required qualifications in job description
