About the position

The Marine Superintendent plays a crucial role in managing the shore marine support for assigned vessels, ensuring their safe and efficient operation. This position requires close collaboration with the Superintendent Engineer to address daily operational aspects effectively. The Marine Superintendent is responsible for ensuring that the Company's Safety, Quality, and Environmental policies and procedures are not only understood but also implemented onboard all company vessels. A significant part of this role involves leading and managing vessel crews to achieve optimal operational efficiency while prioritizing safety and environmental protection. The Marine Superintendent must clearly communicate to all shipboard personnel that the safety of individuals and the protection of the environment are the company's primary concerns. This includes emphasizing that the prevention of injuries and illnesses onboard vessels should be fundamental to all operational decisions. The role also involves directing the resolution of various operational problems and issues, including crew port safety, cargo handling, bridge management, vessel trim/stability and stress analysis, under keel clearance, letters of indemnity, speed and performance, and tracking of insurance claims. Additionally, the Marine Superintendent must remain informed about and ensure that vessels comply with all regulatory initiatives, including those from flag states, port states, and customer and terminal policies, as well as international, federal, and state regulations. A working knowledge of Maintenance and Health, Safety, Security, Quality, and Environmental (HSSQE) modules in NSE is essential, as the Marine Superintendent will monitor and ensure that requisitions, service requests, and all elements of the HSQE module are properly created and completed. This role also involves proposing corrective actions and verifying the closure of incidents and nonconformities onboard vessels. The Marine Superintendent will manage and assign duties to the Assistant Marine Superintendent (where applicable) and serve as a key member of the Home Office Emergency Response Team. This position acts as the focal point for ports, terminals, vetting agencies, and the USCG, assisting and participating in incident investigations and being a member of the MOC Board. The Marine Superintendent will take an active role in the recruitment and selection of Masters and Chief Mates, recommending promotions and overseeing their training orientation. Monitoring voyage performance, including speed and consumptions, and ensuring that ships meet TC requirements are also critical responsibilities. Furthermore, the Marine Superintendent will serve as the point of contact for general commercial issues, including customer support, and will represent the company in industry bodies. The role includes monitoring deck maintenance with a particular focus on safety, cargo handling, mooring navigation, and coating maintenance. The Marine Superintendent is responsible for responding to customers regarding vetting closures and advising the Technical Superintendent of required repairs, providing detailed information on shipyard repairs and modifications needed for assigned vessels. Ensuring that assigned vessels meet stakeholder requirements, including federal and applicable state/port authorities, customer ship terminal policies, and company policies, is also a key responsibility. The Marine Superintendent will code invoices and receipts when necessary and may be required to travel in support of ship operations, convening safety meetings during vessel visits to address issues important to management. Promoting a professional relationship with the officers and crew is essential, and the Marine Superintendent may perform other tasks, duties, and responsibilities as directed by the Fleet Manager. Seabulk and its subsidiaries reserve the right to revise or change job duties and responsibilities as needed, and this job description does not constitute a written or implied contract of employment.
