About the position

The Marine Survey Auditor is responsible for conducting thorough surveys, audits, and inspections of marine vessels, offshore structures, and maritime systems. This role ensures compliance with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and company policies, playing a vital role in marine safety, operational efficiency, and environmental protection.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct detailed surveys of marine vessels, offshore installations, and maritime equipment to assess their condition, safety, and compliance with international regulations (e.g., SOLAS, MARPOL).
  • Perform pre-delivery, on-hire, off-hire, and condition surveys.
  • Carry out audits of Safety Management Systems (SMS) in line with the International Safety Management (ISM) Code.
  • Conduct ISPS (International Ship and Port Facility Security) Code audits and verify compliance with industry certifications like ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001.
  • Verify compliance with class requirements, flag state regulations, and port state control standards.
  • Prepare detailed, accurate survey and audit reports, including observations, findings, and recommendations.
  • Maintain comprehensive records of inspections and audits to ensure traceability and compliance.
  • Provide technical advice to ship owners, operators, and managers regarding necessary corrective actions for compliance and operational improvements.
  • Offer guidance on maritime regulations, risk management, and safety standards.
  • Conduct training sessions for clients or internal teams on maritime safety, regulatory compliance, and audit procedures.
  • Stay updated on changes in international maritime standards and share knowledge with relevant stakeholders.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, including shipowners, operators, and regulatory bodies.
  • Act as the primary point of contact during inspections, audits, and follow-ups.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5-7 years of experience in marine surveying, auditing, or a similar role in the maritime industry.
  • Certification as a Marine Surveyor or Auditor from a recognized institution (e.g., DNV, ABS, Lloyd's Register).
  • Knowledge of IMO conventions, ISM Code, ISPS Code, and SOLAS and MARPOL regulations.
  • Familiarity with class society rules and flag state requirements.

Nice-to-haves

  • Seagoing experience as a Chief Engineer, Marine Engineer, or Master Mariner.
  • Lead Auditor certification (ISO 9001, ISO 14001, or ISO 45001).
  • Experience in offshore installations and dynamic positioning (DP) systems.
