About the position

The Maritime Technical Advisor (MTA) role at Shell is focused on delivering integrated maritime solutions that support a sustainable and profitable future. The MTA will engage with maritime partners to enhance safety, compliance, and operational excellence while fostering a culture of continuous improvement. This position requires a strong commitment to safety leadership, risk management, and effective stakeholder engagement, with responsibilities spanning various maritime operations across the Americas.

Responsibilities

  • Provide maritime expertise to assigned business partners including STUSCO, SOPUS, Chemicals, DLNG, Pipeline, and Manufacturing.
  • Ensure compliance with international and national regulatory requirements, industry standards, and best practices.
  • Engage in fieldwork, traveling to maritime partner locations to influence safety and operational delivery positively.
  • Develop and implement corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence of undesirable events in maritime operations.
  • Support the development of response plans and participate in emergency or operational incident response.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to strengthen relationships and trust.
  • Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence utilizing FIT4.

Requirements

  • Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis.
  • 5 or more years of relevant work experience in maritime operations.
  • Appropriate Certificate of Competence and experience in a senior officer capacity (e.g., Captain, Chief Officer, Chief Engineer).
  • Operational/technical experience on commercial assets and cargos relevant to the role.
  • Experience with vessel assurance in Maritime Operations and knowledge of US Jones Act vessels, especially inland barging operations.
  • Familiarity with HSSE and quality systems such as ISGOTT is a plus.
  • Knowledge of US Coast Guard regulatory requirements and Code of Federal Regulations is a plus.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills, with flexibility to work with different cultures.
