About the position

This position is responsible for providing technical expertise and support to the SICK, Inc. Strategic Industry Teams, distributors, integrators, and customers with regard to the SICK, Inc. Identification & Measuring portfolio. The SICK, Inc. Identification & Measuring Sensor portfolio includes various advanced technologies such as 2D/3D Vision & Line Scanner Sensors, RFID Sensors, LIDAR Sensors, Compact TOF Sensors, and Displacement Measurement Sensors. The role requires a strong focus on technical excellence, commercial tools, collaboration, and business acumen within assigned Global Business Centers. The successful candidate will engage in multiple core processes of the Product Management Process, including Strategic Assessment, Midterm & Budget Planning, Product Development, Product Launch, Product Lifecycle, and Product Phase Out. This position will also involve supporting National Product Management resources in identifying and analyzing technology trends and customer industry needs, providing Tier 2 level technical support, conducting technical training, and leading the creation and review of technical support documentation. Additionally, the role includes collaboration with sales teams, leading product launch processes, and supporting Industry 4.0 enablement technical support activities. The candidate will also be responsible for mentoring junior engineers and may have work direction responsibilities for other National Application Engineer I and II resources. Responsibilities

  • Support National Product Management resources in identifying and analyzing technology trends/developments and customer industry needs.
  • Provide Tier 2 level and post-production technical support inclusive of customer, sales, marketing, and other support needs.
  • Conduct technical training inclusive of customer, sales, and other training needs.
  • Support National Product Management resources with information on new product/extensions/customization ideas & potential and carry out local technical implementation.
  • Lead the creation, review, and submittal of technical support documentation updates.
  • Collaborate with Sales and National Product Management resources as a joint selling team.
  • Lead the support of National Product Management in the product launch process to assure the successful introduction of new products into the sales channel.
  • Lead the design, development, and construction of demonstration equipment to support activities.
  • Lead the support of National Product Management resources in the positioning of the broader SICK, Inc. solution inclusive of Serial Products, Systems, and Services.
  • Lead Industry 4.0 enablement technical support activities.
  • Lead Environment of Customer (EoC) technical support activities.
  • Lead the application of diagnostic techniques to identify problems and investigate root cause analysis.
  • Mentor National Application Engineer I and II resources.
  • May have work direction responsibilities for other National Application Engineer I and II resources.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Industrial Engineering or other Engineering discipline preferred OR 4+ years of equivalent experience.
  • Experience in installation of Industrial Systems in Logistics Automation, Factory Automation or Process Automation industries.
  • Technical competency within assigned Global Business Center(s) inclusive of IO-Link, SOPAS, AppSpace, Safety Designer, and other protocols/software platforms.
  • Expert knowledge in sensor integration, PLC programming, DCS & SCADA programming, networking, database management, AMS & ERP integration, and cyber security.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly and concisely, both written and oral.
  • Excellent customer relationship skills, including listening, conflict resolution, and addressing customer concerns.
  • Ability to understand and apply engineering concepts quickly.
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and Internet applications.
  • Willingness to work alternative schedules including weekends and on-call hours as needed.
  • Legally permitted to work in the United States.
