About the position

The Market Chief Operating Officer (COO) is a pivotal leadership role responsible for overseeing the overall operations of healthcare facilities within the assigned market, specifically focusing on ensuring high-quality, cost-effective care and services while maintaining a positive financial margin. This position is integral to promoting the facility's image and aligning it with the mission, standards, and values of both the facility and Tenet Healthcare, as well as the communities served. The COO will lead the development of innovative strategies in collaboration with physicians and staff to optimize the long-term potential of the facilities under their purview. In this role, the COO is expected to demonstrate strong business acumen and a sophisticated understanding of healthcare funding, particularly in competitive marketplaces. The COO will be tasked with establishing plans to enhance productivity, operational performance, and staff retention, while fostering a culture of quality care. This includes building trust and emerging as a respected leader in key initiatives aimed at improving service quality and employee satisfaction. The COO will also be responsible for ensuring that the highest standards of healthcare delivery are met, with a constant focus on patient care and outcomes. The organizational leadership expectations for the COO include optimizing execution by setting realistic goals and action plans, demonstrating high visibility through interaction with stakeholders, and effectively managing financial and human resources. The COO must exhibit astute judgment in complex problem-solving situations, lead boldly in high-stakes scenarios, and apply financial insights to improve performance. Additionally, the COO will drive organizational success by building consensus among facility managers and medical staff, engaging in talent assessments, and providing ongoing feedback to ensure alignment with strategic goals. Candidates for this position should possess a minimum of ten years of progressive healthcare management experience, culminating in a senior management role such as COO or CEO within a financially sound hospital system. They should demonstrate a strong track record in leading process improvement initiatives, possess high-level problem-solving abilities, and have a reputation for building trust-based relationships with physicians. The ideal candidate will also have a solid understanding of financial indicators and the ability to balance cost and quality issues effectively. An undergraduate degree is required, with an MBA or MHA preferred.

Requirements

  • Minimum of ten years of progressive healthcare/facility management experience.
  • Demonstrable record of significant career progression culminating in a senior management position.
  • High-level complex problem-solving abilities in both group and individual settings.
  • Experience leading process improvement initiatives in a tertiary facility.
  • First-hand experience as a Chief Operating Officer or equivalent in a competitive environment.
  • Expertise in quantitative analysis to support facility goals and objectives.
  • Ability to understand physicians' viewpoints and work strategically in the best interest of patients.
