About the position

As an Assistant Market Grille Department Manager at Hy-Vee, you will support the Department Manager in delivering high-quality products and exceptional customer service. This role emphasizes teamwork, customer engagement, and maintaining a positive company image while ensuring efficient operations within the Market Grille department.

Responsibilities

  • Provide prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring and concern in all interactions.
  • Assist customers by escorting them to products, loading or unloading heavy items, and addressing customer suggestions or requests.
  • Answer the telephone promptly and provide friendly service, including taking product orders.
  • Work with co-workers to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment.
  • Check orders for the day and set up a timeline and production schedule.
  • Review daily production lists with department employees and assign tasks for completion.
  • Ensure food display cases are properly stocked and rotated.
  • Monitor the Market Grille area for cleanliness and safety issues, assigning tasks as needed.
  • Control inventory through constant monitoring of products and ensure the supply area is clean and orderly.
  • Handle catering contracts and follow all food safety guidelines.
  • Address and resolve customer issues and suggest promotional items for the department.
  • Assist in monthly inventory and maintain proper sanitation procedures.
  • Assume management duties in the absence of the Department Manager and write schedules for the department.
  • Train employees in department duties and order products and supplies as needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent experience, with Sanitation (Food Safety) courses encouraged.
  • One year of similar or related experience.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and interpret instructions.
  • Ability to perform arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.
  • Ability to file, post, and mail materials, and guide people with basic direction.

  • Experience in food service or retail management.
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices.
