About the position

The Market Grille Clerk at Hy-Vee is responsible for providing prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service in the Market Grille department. This role involves handling food safely, maintaining cleanliness in the work area, and ensuring customer satisfaction through various support tasks. The clerk will engage with customers, assist with their needs, and work collaboratively with team members to enhance the shopping experience.

Responsibilities

• Provides prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern, and patience in all customer interactions.
• Greets customers in a friendly manner and makes an effort to learn their names.
• Assists customers by escorting them to products, securing items that are out of reach, and loading or unloading heavy items.
• Answers the telephone promptly and provides friendly service to customers who call, including taking orders.
• Takes customer orders at the Market Grille counter and works with co-workers to ensure customer satisfaction.
• Reviews orders for the day and handles food safely while keeping the work area clean and neat.
• Checks the status and appearance of food for freshness and ensures an adequate food supply is ready.
• Prepares and replenishes product as necessary and anticipates product needs for the department.
• Pulls product from cooler/freezer for cooking and checks in product, putting it away and reviewing invoices.
• Runs department registers, receives payment, and makes change as applicable.
• Removes trash in a timely manner and maintains adherence to hygiene and dress guidelines.
• Reports to work when scheduled and on time, and performs secondary duties such as washing dishes and ordering products.

Requirements

• Ability to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or verbal instructions.
• Ability to perform simple addition and subtraction and count and record figures.
• Ability to understand and follow verbal or demonstrated instructions and request supplies orally or in writing.
• No formal education requirement, but six months or less of similar or related work experience is preferred.
