About the position

The Market Research Institute Data Analyst III position at Southern Oregon University is a full-time role within the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) located in Medford, OR. This position is critical for the operation of the Market Research Institute (MRI), which provides advanced market research and analytics services to businesses throughout Oregon. The MRI is known for delivering high-quality market reports and insights, and the Data Analyst III will play a key role in maintaining this reputation. The analyst will work closely with the SBDC Director and will be responsible for managing report requests, conducting research, and preparing customized market reports tailored to the needs of client businesses. This role requires a strong analytical background, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders, including clients and other analysts. The position is expected to contribute to the continuous improvement of the MRI's services and may involve instructing groups in informal settings as well as maintaining the MRI's online presence. The anticipated start date for this position is September 16, 2024, with a closing date for priority consideration of September 6, 2024. This is a limited duration position with an expected end date of June 15, 2025.

Responsibilities

  • Perform research from subscription databases, the internet, and other sources to develop comprehensive reports for businesses requiring in-depth market intelligence.
  • Manage MRI Report Requests from receipt to delivery.
  • Instruct groups in informal forums and classroom venues as requested.
  • Write customized reports to meet the goals and expectations of requesting businesses.
  • Incorporate a high-quality client intake and needs information gathering process into targeted customized reports.
  • Work with SOU faculty for new areas of research to improve the MRI product.
  • Adopt a continuous learning process for accessing information from associated databases and programs.
  • Maintain the OSBDCN website for MRI content and necessary data inputs.
  • Maintain a project log and generate data regarding the MRI's metrics for reporting to stakeholders.
  • Develop a comprehensive marketing outreach program to stimulate Market Analysis Report requests.
  • Continue development of a business model to monetize the MRI's capabilities for a wider client audience.
  • Complete other related projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • Two years of research experience independently gathering, compiling, and analyzing data using statistical methods.
  • Experience using statistical software packages to manipulate data and prepare narrative or statistical reports.
  • Completion of a college-level course in statistics (at least six quarter hours).
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Data Management, Computer Science, or Data Analytics is preferred.
  • Small Business management experience in the private sector, preferably as an owner.
