Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP is a leading international law firm with a strong presence across the globe, and we are currently seeking a Marketing and Business Development Coordinator to join our Marketing department in Dallas. This full-time position is designed for individuals who are committed to providing superior service to our attorneys, advisors, and staff while maintaining a collaborative and improvement-focused atmosphere. The role will involve a variety of responsibilities that support the marketing and business development efforts of the firm, particularly in Texas. The successful candidate will report directly to the Senior Marketing & Business Development Manager and will have the opportunity to work in a hybrid environment, balancing in-office and remote work. The Marketing and Business Development Coordinator will play a crucial role in managing and executing various marketing initiatives, including the organization of external-facing events such as networking gatherings, educational programs, and client dinners. This position requires a proactive approach to event planning, including venue research, invitation drafting, RSVP tracking, vendor coordination, and on-site event hosting. Additionally, the coordinator will assist in the management of sponsorships, memberships, and community involvement, ensuring that all records are accurate and up-to-date. In this role, the coordinator will also collaborate with department managers to design impactful Pro Bono and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) events, maintain mailing lists within the CRM, and support the onboarding process for new lawyers. The position demands strong organizational and project management skills, as well as the ability to prioritize tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment. The coordinator will also contribute to internal communications by reporting on accolades and business development activities, assisting with award submissions, and preparing content for internal newsletters. Overall, this position is integral to the firm's marketing strategy and requires a commitment to excellence and professional growth.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the management and distribution of sporting and concert event tickets, administer suite catering orders, secure approvals and process invoices.
  • Assist with the execution of various external-facing practice-, industry- and office-related events including networking events, educational (CLE) programs, conference receptions, family-friendly events, alumni events and client dinners.
  • Research venues, draft invitations, track RSVP lists, coordinate with the firm's CLE team, liaise with vendors, process invoices, act as on-site host and coordinate event registration.
  • Collaborate with department managers to design and execute impactful Pro Bono and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) client-facing events.
  • Maintain mailing lists within the CRM while ensuring changes to contact records are processed as needed.
  • Assist with coordination of office-related sponsorships, memberships and community involvement.
  • Gather information and collaborate with lawyers regarding membership and board opportunities in local business, trade, community and charitable organizations.
  • Work with the marketing and design teams to prepare advertisements, invitations, event collateral and other one-off print items.
  • Research external networking events and programs to prepare content for a monthly internal newsletter.
  • Research and source promotional items for firm events.
  • Assist in new lawyer onboarding process, coordinate photoshoots and draft/edit attorney biographies.
  • Drive internal communications by collecting and reporting on accolades, client successes and business development activities.
  • Assist with drafting attorney and client submissions for various local awards.
  • Contribute to the monthly review of the departmental budgets and prepare analysis for the year-end budget process.
  • Assist with implementing client and business development efforts for the Texas offices to support the practice groups and industry teams.
  • Support Managers with special projects as identified by the Partners-in-Charge of the Texas offices, Chief Marketing & Business Development Officer or Director of Events as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • At least two years of related marketing experience, previous law firm or professional services experience preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated poise, tact and professionalism when interacting with internal and external contacts.
  • Strong service orientation with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers, attorneys and outside vendors.
  • Ability to read, comprehend and follow instructions.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including strong writing and editing abilities.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage workload effectively, respond to changing priorities, work independently and as part of a team, and complete tasks under time pressure.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Ability to use initiative and judgment to achieve results.
  • Strong computer skills including advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint are essential; experience with InterAction CRM, Vuture and Aptivio a plus.
