About the position

The Marketing and Communications Manager for SC NEXUS is responsible for developing and executing comprehensive marketing and communication strategies to enhance awareness and participation in the SC NEXUS tech hub. This role involves creating engaging content, coordinating outreach efforts, and collaborating with internal teams to support the mission of SC NEXUS, which is part of the South Carolina Department of Commerce's efforts to drive economic development and innovation in the state.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a working knowledge of the SC NEXUS tech hub, component projects, and consortium members.
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive communications and marketing strategy to facilitate effective, timely, and impactful informational communications and media campaigns.
  • Create SC NEXUS marketing collateral for the S.C. Commerce sales team's business recruitment efforts and existing industry outreach.
  • Draft or support the preparation of talking points, speeches, letters, presentations, press releases, and other similar items.
  • Develop media responses or provide information to the S.C. Commerce Director of Marketing and Communications and General Counsel regarding SC NEXUS-related media and FOIA requests.
  • Maintain brand standards for the SC NEXUS brand and comply with S.C. Commerce brand standards.
  • Create engaging content for digital platforms, including the SC Nexus website, social media, newsletters, and email campaigns.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to gather information and develop marketing materials that support SC Nexus's mission.
  • Coordinate events, webinars, and public outreach efforts to enhance SC Nexus's visibility and strengthen relationships with partners.
  • Track and analyze marketing and communication efforts, providing reports on campaign performance and audience engagement.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree and relevant program experience.
  • Knowledge of basic journalistic principles and practices for information dissemination, as well as social media best practices.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple projects while meeting tight deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail to gather, organize, and present program content clearly and persuasively.
  • Assertive and proactive in engaging stakeholders for timely information.
  • A minimum of five years of experience overseeing and directing communications and marketing strategies for an organization.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in economic development or working with government agencies.
  • Familiarity with advanced energy sectors or technology hubs.
