About the position

The Schreyer Honors College at Penn State is seeking a Marketing and Communications Specialist who will play a pivotal role in multichannel storytelling and general communications for the college. This position is primarily responsible for identifying and capturing compelling student and alumni stories through various print and digital mediums. The Marketing and Communications Specialist will lead the planning, development, and distribution of communications aimed at promoting college activities, programs, resources, and information to a diverse audience of constituents. In this role, the specialist will be tasked with writing feature stories, marketing content, and web content that highlight the achievements and experiences of students and alumni. They will conceptualize and coordinate multimedia storytelling efforts, utilizing videography and photography to enhance the narrative. Additionally, the specialist will write and distribute press releases, targeted email communications, and a weekly email newsletter to keep constituents informed about college information and activities. The position also involves overseeing the production of a print and digital annual magazine, which includes planning stories, writing content, coordinating multimedia web content, and collaborating with a designer to produce the publication. Maintaining a content calendar and working closely with Schreyer staff to plan content and distribution methods that effectively reach target audiences is essential. The specialist will also be responsible for writing remarks for the dean and other Schreyer leadership for use during events, alumni engagement, and prospective student programs. Furthermore, the role includes hiring and supervising student interns to assist with content development and attending college events as needed to capture content or assist with event logistics.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • 3 years of experience in marketing, communications, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Exceptional writing skills and ability to write for a variety of platforms.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate well as part of a team.
  • An interest in multimedia content and ability to think creatively about multichannel storytelling.
