About the position

The Marketing and Communications Specialist is responsible for creating, planning, and executing integrated communications strategies to promote the Division of Student Affairs at the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT). This role is pivotal in increasing awareness of the services and resources available to students, ensuring that the university's brand is consistently represented across various media and platforms. The specialist will work closely with cross-functional teams, collaborating with staff, faculty, and students to align marketing efforts with university policies and best practices. Reporting directly to the Student Affairs Director for Marketing and Communications, the specialist will also manage a team of student employees dedicated to supporting divisional marketing initiatives. In this position, the individual will engage in content marketing, develop communication strategies, and provide education and training to enhance the understanding of marketing and communications within the division. The role requires exceptional written communication skills, project management capabilities, and the ability to handle multiple priorities effectively. The specialist will also be responsible for assessing digital marketing efforts and may take on additional duties as assigned. Responsibilities

  • Create and execute integrated communications strategies for the Division of Student Affairs.
  • Increase awareness of available services and resources for students.
  • Represent the university's brand consistently across all media and platforms.
  • Manage a team of student employees supporting marketing and communications efforts.
  • Develop and implement content marketing strategies.
  • Provide education and training on marketing and communications best practices.
  • Assess digital marketing efforts and make recommendations for improvement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, or a related field.
  • 2-5 years of experience in a communications/multimedia/marketing writing position.
  • Ability to translate business goals into actionable marketing strategies.
  • Exceptional written communication skills, including writing, editing, and proofreading.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups including staff, faculty, and students.
  • Strong project management skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Keen attention to detail and outstanding interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and planning skills.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and cross-cultural issues.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in marketing and communications in higher education.
  • Experience in social media strategy and campaign development.
  • Experience with website management, including knowledge of the Drupal platform.
  • Familiarity with website analytics tools such as Google Analytics.
  • Knowledge of Deaf culture, American Sign Language (ASL), or willingness to learn.
