About the position

The Marketing and Engagement Director at the Precourt Institute for Energy, part of Stanford University's Doerr School of Sustainability, plays a pivotal role in managing and advancing the institute's marketing, community outreach, and media strategies. This leadership position is responsible for developing, managing, and executing strategic marketing plans that align with the institute's mission and objectives. The director will collaborate with leadership to evolve community outreach and brand strategies across various research and education units, aiming to build an effective alumni outreach program and foster partnerships within the broader Stanford community and beyond. In addition to these responsibilities, the director will evaluate the effectiveness of marketing campaigns and engagement strategies, oversee event management processes, and partner with the communication director to produce integrated marketing materials. The role requires a strong focus on market research to inform strategic marketing directions and customer targeting, as well as the ability to communicate marketing plans effectively across the institute and its ecosystem. The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's degree and at least eight years of relevant experience, demonstrating a proven ability to work with senior leaders and execute integrated marketing strategies across various channels. Familiarity with energy and environmental fields, along with a high level of diplomacy and relationship management skills, is essential for success in this role. Responsibilities

  • Develop, manage, and execute strategic marketing plans and engagement strategies to meet the institute's mission and objectives.
  • Collaborate with leadership on evolving community outreach and brand strategy across the institute's research and education units.
  • Advance strategies to build an alumni outreach program and community working with leadership and organizations across the university.
  • Cultivate engagement opportunities and partnerships with the broader Stanford community and externally.
  • Build partnerships among other institutes, departments, and schools.
  • Evaluate effectiveness for marketing campaigns, outreach practices, and engagement strategies.
  • Structure and oversee consistent event management processes and activities across the institute and its research initiatives and education programs.
  • Partner with the institute's communication director to lead and support production of integrated marketing materials such as annual reports and marketing collateral.
  • Create and manage the execution of an integrated communication approach leveraging marketing and branding strategy across appropriate channels.
  • Improve outreach approaches via media and other services, expanding social media presence including collaboration for podcast productions.
  • Define and conduct market research, including competitive benchmarking, identification of new opportunities, and campaign/program/service/event analysis.
  • Communicate marketing plans across the institute, its ecosystem, and Doerr School to educate and influence stakeholders.
  • Manage key engagement vendors and consultant relationships.
  • Scope and manage project/program budget(s).
  • Oversee interns and other staff; provide staff training.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and eight years of relevant experience, or a combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with senior leaders.
  • Extensive knowledge of strategic analysis, customer segmentation strategies, and business and marketing planning.
  • Demonstrated experience in integrated marketing strategy and execution across channels including digital and print.
  • Demonstrated application of market research and data analysis.
  • Excellent project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated experience presenting to senior management.
