About the position

The Marketing and Outreach Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting the Economic Development Authority's initiatives aimed at promoting and enhancing the commercial districts of Winchester, VA. This position involves a variety of responsibilities that focus on education and promotional support to stakeholders, ensuring that the community remains vibrant and attractive for residents and visitors alike. The assistant will engage in organizing seminars, events, and marketing activities that encourage local shopping and living, thereby contributing to the economic vitality of the area. In addition to event planning and community engagement, the Marketing and Outreach Assistant will be responsible for maintaining the Economic Development Authority's online presence. This includes utilizing electronic marketing tools, social media platforms, and the official website to disseminate information and promote Winchester effectively. The role requires active participation in meetings with various organizations, including the Economic Development team, Winchester Parking Authority, and Winchester Tourism, to ensure cohesive communication and collaboration across initiatives. The assistant will also serve as support staff to the Economic Development team and its committees, assisting in the communication of information to media outlets, civic groups, and through social media channels. Collaboration with community partners is essential, particularly in initiatives aimed at expanding arts and entertainment offerings throughout Old Town and the broader City of Winchester. This position is integral to fostering a sense of community and promoting local culture and commerce.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Economic Development staff with education and promotional support to stakeholders for successful and vibrant commercial districts.
  • Organize seminars, events, marketing, and other activities that encourage people to visit, shop, and live locally.
  • Maintain the Economic Development Authority's online presence using electronic marketing tools and social media platforms.
  • Attend meetings of the Economic Development team, Winchester Parking Authority, Winchester Tourism, Main St non-profit, and other organizational meetings as needed.
  • Serve as support staff to the Economic Development team and its committees.
  • Assist the City of Winchester Communications Department in communicating information to various media outlets, civic groups, and social media.
  • Collaborate with community partners on initiatives meant to expand arts and entertainment throughout Old Town and the City of Winchester.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a marketing or business-related field or equivalent experience required.
  • Some experience in customer service and/or travel, hospitality and recreation, clerical, and administrative roles is required.
  • Experience with web design, social media, photography, and marketing is required.
  • Background in graphic design to assist in the creation of marketing materials.
