About the position

The Marketing and Public Relations Coordinator is responsible for promoting the Town of Smithfield and Isle of Wight County through various marketing, sales, public relations, and social media strategies. The role aims to increase tourism-related tax revenue, employment, and civic pride by conceptualizing and implementing marketing programs, managing budgets, and representing the tourism office in local organizations and events.

Responsibilities

  • Conceptualizes programs and designs marketing materials for events and ongoing marketing efforts.
  • Initiates and implements new marketing efforts and programs as needed.
  • Updates, maintains, and promotes the department's websites.
  • Creates and implements the department's social media marketing plan.
  • Plans and implements the marketing budget and aspects of the special event budget.
  • Determines and reports on the effectiveness of marketing efforts to the Director and stakeholders.
  • Plans, coordinates, creates, and writes collateral material for sales calls.
  • Coordinates logistics for monthly sales calls.
  • Participates in trade and bridal shows.
  • Provides graphic services for other departments and community events.
  • Plans and executes the department's annual marketing and social media budgets.
  • Makes budget impact recommendations.
  • Exercises purchasing authority up to $1,000 without supervisor approval.
  • Attends meetings, trade shows, and conferences for tourism organizations.
  • Serves on boards and committees for events and tourism-related organizations.
  • Cultivates contacts through sales calls and follow-ups.
  • Provides correspondence through various media.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
  • Two years of related work experience or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Knowledge of hospitality and tourism industry principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of sales, marketing, and media relations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other software packages.
  • Skill in using electronic and social media platforms.
  • Skill in using Adobe Creative Suite and graphic design programs.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to multitask and work independently with minimal supervision.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with website software (Weebly, Mailchimp) and email software (Constant Contact).
  • Familiarity with Component Management Systems.

Benefits

  • Full-time position with a competitive salary range of $50,419 - $66,262 per year.
