About the position

The MarComm and Event Coordinator at the University of Minnesota is responsible for developing and executing comprehensive communication plans for the Department of Aerospace Engineering and Mechanics (AEM). This role involves creating original content, managing event planning, and ensuring effective messaging and branding. The coordinator collaborates with various stakeholders to enhance the department's visibility and engagement with its audience, including students, faculty, alumni, and donors.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development of strategic communications plans to promote department programs and initiatives.
  • Implement communications plans through research, writing, and editing for print and multimedia projects.
  • Design and write for all communications, adhering to University brand standards.
  • Take photos or videos for publications and social media.
  • Maintain and update the departmental website and intranet.
  • Create and manage faculty research websites as needed.
  • Collaborate with the college's communications team on promotional materials.
  • Create images and email templates for newsletters.
  • Build presentation slides for recruiting and outreach efforts.
  • Create websites for special events as needed.
  • Organize and promote the AEM Colloquium, coordinating logistics and communications.
  • Plan and execute details for special events such as seminars and conferences.
  • Work with faculty and staff to identify strategic event opportunities and produce marketing materials.

Requirements

  • BA/BS degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, English, Art or related field plus 2 years professional experience, or 6 years combined equivalent education and experience.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with an emphasis on detail and accuracy.
  • Experience writing and editing materials for diverse audiences.
  • Experience developing and implementing a communications plan.
  • Experience with web content management, preferably with Drupal and Google Sites.
  • Experience with event planning and execution.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe Suite including InDesign, Illustrator, AfterEffects, and Photoshop.
  • Experience with photography and/or video production.

  • Experience working in a higher education institution, preferably in STEM disciplines.
  • Experience working with diverse constituents.
  • Ability to manage and execute print and multimedia projects on budget and deadline.
  • Ability to solve problems and work independently and collaboratively.
