About the position

The Marketing Coordinator at Smithfield Foods is responsible for providing animal projections for pig placement and marketing, assisting in research projects to improve productivity, and ensuring effective communication with customers regarding animal sales. The role involves analyzing data to optimize operations, training employees, and developing marketing plans to enhance revenue generation.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze data to project animals for sale.
  • Provide placement information for all pigs.
  • Work with customers on quantity, weight, and scheduling of animals.
  • Communicate with customers on sale and purchase prices of animals.
  • Evaluate and select animals for herd replacements.
  • Train and guide employees on sort loss and placement.
  • Consult on graded loads for Midwest Company Managed and Contract locations.
  • Perform TQA truck audits and serve as a TQA trainer.
  • Manage non-compliance processes for truckers, plants, and growers.
  • Analyze data to identify root causes of transportation losses.
  • Provide leadership to sell pigs effectively for maximum revenue.
  • Analyze revenue differences between plants and optimize space utilization.
  • Maintain good working relationships with suppliers and vendors.
  • Develop and execute short and long-range marketing plans.
  • Assist in developing marketing goals with packers.
  • Ensure effective control of marketing results and implement corrective actions.
  • Recommend changes and provide guidance on projects to improve productivity.
  • Monitor performance of truckers, growers, and plants, recommending corrective actions as needed.
  • Schedule loads across various load crews and create weekly schedules.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED and 2+ years of relevant experience required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Business, or related field preferred with 1+ years experience in logistics.
  • Current and valid driver's license with acceptable MVR.
  • PQA certification - PQA Plus and TQA.
  • Proven working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); Access and Internet knowledge preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with external and internal customers.
  • Compliance with environmental, safety, and animal care laws and procedures.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in logistics and marketing within the agriculture sector.
  • Ability to work nights and weekends when necessary.
