About the position

The Marketing Manager for External Communications & Public Relations at Year Up United is responsible for executing the organization's external communications strategy in alignment with its impact goals. This role involves project management for multi-stakeholder projects, collaboration with internal teams and external partners, and ensuring brand alignment across various initiatives. The ideal candidate will possess strong relationship-building skills, strategic thinking, and a passion for social justice, while also engaging with students as a mentor and advocate.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Associate Director to align organizational impact goals with PR functions.
  • Develop executive briefings and innovative PR campaigns.
  • Measure the impact of PR initiatives and identify growth opportunities.
  • Manage the administration of the PR function, including processing invoices and developing press releases.
  • Create processes to support effective execution of tasks and projects.
  • Share outcomes across the marketing team for broader awareness, including on social media.
  • Manage relationships with key stakeholders and ensure project success from planning to delivery.
  • Create and present strong project plans and briefs for effective project execution.
  • Partner with internal teams and external partners to drive awareness campaigns.
  • Manage projects from ideation to execution, including events and PR strategies.
  • Supervise and manage PR and communications agencies to ensure business continuity.
  • Coordinate across internal teams to ensure strong execution of projects.
  • Act as a learning community member by engaging with Year Up United students.

Requirements

  • 5 years of public relations work experience required; branding experience preferred.
  • Experience managing social media for a business or executive, including LinkedIn.
  • Experience creating, executing, and measuring public relations campaigns with strong media relationships.
  • Track record of successful management of client relationships and people.
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written), copywriting, and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent project management, time management, and organizational skills in a fast-paced environment.
  • Creative storyteller with a passion for awareness-building among a corporate audience.
  • Preferred proficiency in public relations tools, including press releases and press tracking tools.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Salesforce, Drupal, Google Analytics, or similar systems.
  • A passion for working with young adults and a strong commitment to the mission of Year Up United.
  • Understanding of the Opportunity Divide and its drivers.
