About the position

The Marketing Manager at the Federal Laboratory Consortium for Technology Transfer (FLC) is responsible for leading all marketing and promotional activities to support the mission of maximizing the impact of technology transfer from federal laboratories. This role involves collaboration with the Marketing and Communications Director to develop and execute marketing strategies, create content, and ensure cohesive branding across various platforms. The position is fully remote and requires a strong understanding of marketing principles and the ability to communicate complex scientific issues effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Lead all marketing and promotional activities of the FLC.
  • Work with the Marketing and Communications Director on communications activities that promote federal tech transfer success.
  • Prepare marketing content, strategy, and media for FLC programs and activities.
  • Coordinate with graphics design, social media, and other staff to develop full-scale marketing campaigns.
  • Develop marketing campaign concepts and content according to industry best practices and audience preferences.
  • Ensure cohesive content, branding, timing, and strategy for marketing campaigns, including email and paid advertising.
  • Conduct analyses of program offerings to ensure quality, identify gaps, and continually improve materials.
  • Prepare reports on program progress and performance metrics for senior management, committee leaders, and the FLC Executive Board.
  • Lead production of the bi-weekly FLC Digest newsletter, including sourcing content and creating original content.
  • Write and edit scripts for FLC programs and events, including the FLC National Meeting.
  • Provide writing, editing, and support for all FLC editorial content and collateral, including external member emails, social media posts, executive communications, brochures, newsletters, and event program guides.
  • Write, edit, and prepare the FLC's Annual Report to the President and Congress.
  • Develop the FLC's Awards publication, including writing and vetting annual award winner profiles for publication.
  • Oversee FLC's success story database (Labs in Action), writing and editing new entries, liaising with labs regarding submissions, and promoting the collection.
  • Work with the marketing director to create the FLC's yearly calendar, the FLC Planner.
  • Support production and promotion of The Transfer Files podcast.
  • Write, edit, and distribute press releases as needed.
  • Provide onsite support at some meetings and events.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in marketing or equivalent experience.
  • 3 years of practical experience in marketing, or 5 years of proven experience in lieu of a marketing degree.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in developing, tracking, and achieving measurable marketing goals.
  • Ability to understand and communicate complex scientific issues to a general audience.
  • Keen awareness of audience and ability to pivot among distinct target audiences.
  • Demonstrated project management experience to set and meet deadlines for long-term projects.
  • Strong preference for multimedia experience, including script-writing.
  • Strong attention to detail and proofreading skills, with knowledge of Associated Press style.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including a command of English grammar, usage, and vocabulary.
  • Strong proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Ability to work as a team as well as independently.
  • Experience and sound judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
  • Team-player skills, drawing energy and enthusiasm from working with others.
  • Experience with Asana is a plus.

  • Familiarity with scientific communication.
