About the position

DLA Piper is seeking a Marketing Manager to support the Intellectual Property and Technology practice on a national basis. Under the direction of the Senior Marketing Manager, this role will involve close collaboration with practice group leaders, firm attorneys, and other marketing team members to drive revenue through new business opportunities and client expansion programs. The Marketing Manager will be responsible for strategic business planning, pitches and proposals, events and sponsorships, sales pipeline management, key client initiatives, and business development coaching and training. This position is crucial in responding to marketing and business development requests in alignment with the firm's overall strategy. The Marketing Manager will provide leadership and guidance to attorneys and staff, ensuring effective communication and a motivated team effort. Responsibilities include researching strategic market opportunities, leading the cross-selling of services, managing business sponsorships, and tracking activities relevant to business development. The role also involves responding to RFPs/RFIs, developing proposal materials, providing sales support, conducting market research, and coordinating business development training sessions at the national level. Additionally, the Marketing Manager will advise attorneys on business development tactics and serve as the point of contact for internal and external communications, including media relations. This position offers the flexibility of remote work, with occasional travel required for important client-facing events. The ideal candidate will possess strong client service orientation, project management skills, and the ability to generate credibility with firm attorneys. Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is essential, along with the capacity to work extended hours as needed. A Bachelor's Degree in Communication, Marketing, or Journalism is required, along with a minimum of 6 years of marketing/business development support experience, preferably in the professional services industry.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership, guidance, and mentoring to attorneys and staff through effective communication.
  • Research strategic market opportunities and lead the cross-selling of existing services, practice groups, and offices.
  • Oversee the initiation of substantial new client opportunities for the firm.
  • Work with the marketing events team to execute and drive ROI for marketing events.
  • Manage business sponsorships and activities tied to the practice.
  • Track activities relevant to business development of the practice group.
  • Respond to all RFPs/RFIs and develop proposal/pitch materials in conjunction with Pursuits & Proposals team members.
  • Provide sales support and assist attorneys with target opportunities.
  • Conduct business and market research; maintain attorney biographies.
  • Coordinate business development training sessions at the national level.
  • Advise attorneys on business development tactics and tools, including CRM systems.
  • Serve as point of contact for internal and external communications, including media relations.
  • Update sales pipeline information and support deal/case tracking efforts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Communication, Marketing, or Journalism required.
  • 6 years of marketing/business development support experience, preferably in the professional services industry.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong client service orientation and project management skills.
  • Ability to generate immediate credibility with firm attorneys.
  • Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work extended and/or weekend hours as required.
