About the position

The Marketing and Public Relations Manager at the National Black Arts Festival (NBAF) plays a pivotal role in enhancing the organization's public perception and community engagement. This position is responsible for the creation and execution of a comprehensive marketing and public relations plan that supports all NBAF departments, including Public Programs, Youth Programs, Special Events, and Fund Development. The ideal candidate will be a highly qualified, motivated, and professional individual with experience in both public relations and marketing management. They will develop and maintain important relationships with media professionals, identify press opportunities, and market NBAF's initiatives to diverse audiences across multiple platforms. The Marketing and PR Manager will manage all aspects of marketing and PR on a day-to-day basis, ensuring brand consistency and professionalism in all communications. This includes overseeing social media and digital content creation, managing media inquiries, and tracking spending to effectively allocate budgeted funds across various initiatives. The role requires exceptional communication skills, exemplary storytelling abilities, and a keen sense of social media strategy and best practices. The candidate will also need to grow and develop strong connections with community partners in the arts and entertainment industry. Reporting directly to the Artistic Director, the Marketing & PR Manager will create engaging marketing plans for all of NBAF's programs, initiatives, and events. They will be responsible for writing and disseminating press releases, managing the design and creation of marketing graphics and videos, and ensuring that all organizational marketing materials are current and accurately reflect the brand's messaging. The position is not remote or hybrid; the candidate must work onsite and may need to work evenings and weekends based on business needs.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute marketing communications plan & budget
  • Manage all marketing materials, website updates, and social media presence on behalf of the Company
  • Coordinate and propose public relations objectives
  • Oversee social media and digital content creation, calendar, and execution
  • Manage media inquiries and schedule interviews
  • Process, monitor, and communicate PR/Marketing reports on a quarterly basis
  • Build impactful public relations strategies that shape the public perception of our organization
  • Maintain strong connections with media representatives
  • Proactively generate ways to advance the Company's brand in the local and national Black arts community
  • Actively market and promote Company news and program activities including formal press release distribution, article development/pitch, social media, etc
  • Manage the design and creation of marketing graphics and videos as needed
  • Write and disseminate press releases to the media
  • Responsible for the creation and distribution of the bi-weekly NBAF e-newsletter
  • Continually evaluate the public relations/marketing strategy
  • Ensure organizational marketing materials are current, accurate and properly reflect the brand and desired messaging
  • Perform other duties as assigned which are in the best interests of the Company

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field—Marketing, Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, or similar
  • 5+ years of experience in Marketing or Public Relations managerial roles
  • Exceptional marketing strategy skills
  • In-depth understanding of social media
  • First-class written and spoken communication
  • Budget management skills
  • Strong understanding of all social media channels
  • Superb communication and relationship-building skills
  • Knowledge of Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, Hootsuite, Mailchimp, Google Drive, Microsoft Teams, and other programs as needed
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to create and maintain processes, procedures, timelines, and schedules for successful project execution
  • Great leadership abilities
  • Ability to recognize and define problems, collect information, establish facts and implement innovative solutions
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and meet deadlines
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Thorough knowledge of current industry trends
  • Established media relationships
