About the position

The Marketing Specialist for Communications and Marketing at the City of Mesquite is responsible for creating, executing, and evaluating marketing campaigns that enhance public awareness of the city's initiatives and programs. This role is pivotal in promoting a positive and consistent image of the City's brand across various communication channels. The specialist will engage in a variety of tasks including the development of marketing materials, public relations efforts, and the management of social media channels in both English and Spanish. The position requires a strong understanding of branding guidelines and the ability to produce high-quality written content that adheres to organizational standards. In addition to creating and maintaining marketing materials, the specialist will research, plan, write, edit, and proofread official city communications. This includes newsletters, social media posts, and website content, ensuring that all communications are engaging and informative. The role also involves project management, where the specialist will coordinate the workflow of the department and assist in the design and development of both print and digital communications. Evaluating the effectiveness of marketing campaigns through metric analysis is also a key responsibility, allowing for continuous improvement in outreach efforts. The Marketing Specialist will work under the general supervision of the Director of Communications and Marketing and may be required to attend events during evenings and weekends. The position also includes responsibilities for maintaining the City’s website and managing promotional products within budget constraints. The ideal candidate will exhibit creativity and initiative in their projects and will be expected to stay updated with current trends in marketing and communications.

Responsibilities

  • Create, execute, and evaluate internal and external marketing campaigns.
  • Ensure all marketing materials align with the City of Mesquite's branding guidelines.
  • Research, plan, write, edit, and proofread copy for official city communication.
  • Write engaging and informative copy for marketing materials, newsletters, and social media.
  • Work with stakeholders to deliver effective educational and informational pieces.
  • Create and implement marketing plan schedules on time and within budget.
  • Assist with design development and creation of print and digital communications.
  • Coordinate English and Spanish social media channels.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of campaigns through metric analysis and provide recommendations for improvement.
  • Assist with outreach efforts at special events and educational meetings.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in communication, marketing, journalism, English, or related field, OR Associate's degree in a related field with two years of experience.
  • Two years of experience in communications, marketing, public outreach, or related field.
  • Extensive written and verbal communication skills.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license.

Nice-to-haves

  • Spanish/Bilingual speaking and writing skills (stipend offered for qualification).
  • Some video production skills.
  • Design skills and knowledge in Adobe Creative Cloud and Canva Pro.
