About the position

The Mid Reading Instructor at Martin Luther King Academy is responsible for helping students learn essential reading skills and subject matter to excel in a global society. This full-time position requires a commitment to professional development, effective classroom management, and collaboration with staff and parents to support student learning.

Responsibilities

• Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
• Maintain and improve professional competence.
• Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for instructional aides and volunteers, and evaluate their performance.
• Be available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required.
• Assist administration in implementing policies and rules governing student life and conduct.
• Develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and maintain order in a fair manner.
• Maintain accurate and complete records as required by law and district policy.
• Protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities with necessary precautions.
• Diagnose learning disabilities of students and seek assistance from district specialists as needed.
• Assess student accomplishments regularly and provide progress reports.
• Implement the district's philosophy of education and instructional goals.
• Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media to meet student needs.
• Guide the learning process toward curriculum goals and establish clear objectives for lessons.
• Encourage students to maintain standards of classroom behavior.
• Prepare for classes and provide evidence of preparation upon request.
• Create a conducive classroom environment appropriate to student maturity and interests.
• Plan a program of study that meets individual student needs and interests.
• Meet and instruct assigned classes at designated times and locations.
• Demonstrate or be willing to learn to communicate in more than one language at a novice level.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Education or related field.
• Valid Kentucky Teaching Certification for the assigned area and grade level.
