About the position

The Lumberyard Associate position at Marvin's involves providing excellent customer service while managing merchandise in the yard and warehouse. Associates are responsible for loading and unloading trucks, assisting customers, and ensuring safety and security of company assets. This part-time role requires a strong focus on customer interaction and inventory maintenance, along with adherence to safety protocols.

Responsibilities

• Greet customers or professional contractors in a friendly manner upon entry into the yard or warehouse.
• Operate forklift to merchandise and stock yard and warehouse.
• Assist truck drivers in delivery of merchandise to homeowners and job sites using company equipment.
• Load materials into customers' vehicles or on to company delivery vehicles, validating type and quantity based on the point-of-sale system.
• Develop expertise in operating forklifts, warehouse lifts, pallet jacks, or other equipment for product movement.
• Unload incoming freight without damaging goods or equipment.
• Accurately build loads and prepare materials for delivery.
• Identify product shortages and out-of-stocks and report to store management.
• Maintain yard and warehouse in a clean and orderly condition.
• Assist cashiers or other store personnel as requested.
• Assist with contractor sales counter functions as necessary.
• Ensure all equipment is in good condition and safe, following company safety guidelines.
• Attend and participate in regular safety meetings with store associates.
• Prepare delivered inventory to protect against loss and theft.

Requirements

• Valid Forklift Certification
• Some delivery experience
• Experience dealing with the public
• Basic math skills
• Satisfactory reading, writing, and speaking skills
• Knowledge of lumber, building materials, and material handling (preferred)
• Ability to lift and load merchandise weighing up to 100 lbs.
• Ability to place merchandise in locations above six feet in height
• Ability to unload a delivery truck and climb a ladder.

Nice-to-haves
