About the position
The Columbus Crew is excited to announce a part-time position for a Mascot Performer within our Marketing Department for the 2024 MLS Season. This role is essential in promoting the Crew brand and engaging with fans during home matches and various events. The Mascot Performer will embody Crew Cat, our beloved mascot, and will be responsible for creating a lively and entertaining atmosphere at matches and community events. This position is not just about performing; it involves planning, scheduling, and executing a variety of engagements that enhance the visibility of the Crew brand. The Mascot Performer will report directly to the Coordinator of Marketing and will be based at the Municipal Light Plant Building in Columbus, Ohio. As a Mascot Performer, you will be expected to attend match day meetings, schedule engagements with outside events, and assist in evaluating performers for backup opportunities. You will also play a key role in scheduling the Marketing Energy Crew interns. Your responsibilities will include creating scripts for Crew Cat during matchdays and events, which will involve promotions, seat visits, contests, and more. Your primary goal will be to provide a fun, entertaining, and positive experience for all guests during activations, events, and matches. You will be an ambassador for the Crew brand, promoting a positive and exciting atmosphere while interacting with guests, sponsors, and supporters. Additionally, you will maintain the Crew Cat costume and props, assist guests with various matchday elements, and support additional grassroots and marketing events as needed.
Responsibilities
- Perform as Crew Cat at home matches for the 2024 MLS Season and in the surrounding areas for various functions and events
- Attend match day meetings
- Schedule engagements with outside events for mascots to make the Crew brand more visible
- Assist in evaluating performers for backup opportunities
- Assist in the scheduling of the Marketing Energy Crew interns
- Demonstrate and maintain Crew brand standards while serving as an ambassador of the brand
- Create the script for Crew Cat during matchdays and events which includes promotions, seat visits, contests, etc.
- Provide a fun, entertaining and positive experience by interacting and engaging with all guests during activations, events, and matches
- Promote the Crew by creating a positive and exciting atmosphere while interacting with guests, sponsors, and supporters
- Maintain Crew Cat costume and props
- Assist guests with various Matchday elements
- Assist with additional Crew grassroots and marketing events as needed
Requirements
- Previous mascot performance preferred (collegiate/professional)
- Basic knowledge of soccer required
- Max of 20 hours per match week paid hourly
- Must be a minimum of 21 years of age
- Ability to attend all regular and post-season Crew home matches, including evening and weekend assignments
- Must be able to lift and maneuver a minimum of 50 pounds
- Must be able to climb ladders, carry, walk, sit, push, pull and move continuously during work hours
- Must be able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse population, including strong and confident verbal communication skills. Customer service experience a plus
- Able to work independently and with a team
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Knowledge of the Columbus Crew and prior marketing experience preferred
- Dependable transportation to and from appearances
- The ability to multi-task, establish priorities and work well in a fast paced and team environment
- The ability to think and work in a creative atmosphere and share ideas openly
- Live in the Columbus, OH metro area
Nice-to-haves
- Knowledge of the Columbus Crew and prior marketing experience preferred
