The Mason/Plasterer position at the University of Washington (UW) Facilities involves performing journey-level masonry and plastering work under the direction of a supervisor and lead. This role is crucial for maintaining and repairing the university's buildings, facilities, and grounds. The successful candidate will be responsible for a variety of tasks including bricklaying, plastering, and cement finishing. The position requires reading and interpreting blueprints and working drawings, laying bricks and blocks, and preparing cement floors, sidewalks, stairs, and curbing. Additionally, the Mason/Plasterer will mix and apply glues, cements, and grouts, and apply nonskid surfaces such as safety strips. The role also involves operating power tools and machinery such as power hammers, trowels, core drills, jackhammers, and diamond saws to remove concrete and other surfaces for repair and installation of conduits and air lines. The Mason/Plasterer will be expected to estimate materials and time required for job completion, maintain communication with leads and supervisors regarding project status, and operate vehicles to transport tools and personnel to various job sites. The position may also require instructing semiskilled workers and ensuring compliance with occupational health and safety regulations. In addition to technical skills, the Mason/Plasterer is expected to provide excellent customer service through professional interactions with clients and colleagues.
