About the position

The Mason position at Tewksbury Hospital involves performing various masonry tasks including laying brick, stone, and cement blocks, as well as installing and repairing different types of flooring. The role is essential for maintaining the hospital's facilities and ensuring a safe and functional environment for patients and staff. This position requires physical stamina and the ability to follow detailed instructions while working collaboratively with other trades and vendors.

Responsibilities

• Performs all necessary activities to properly lay brick, stone and cement blocks.
• Prepares surfaces for plaster or cement work.
• Mixes mortar and concrete.
• Installs, repairs and replaces vinyl, stone, ceramic and other types of flooring.
• Erects scaffolding, staging and ladders as needed.
• Installs access panels in masonry surfaces.
• Cuts openings into wall, ceilings and floors constructed of masonry materials.
• Protects adjacent areas from fumes, dust and vapors by installing and maintaining barriers, ventilation and other control measures.
• Other duties as required.

Requirements

• At least two years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience as a stonemason, marble setter or bricklayer.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions/directions.
• Talent for establishing and maintaining harmonious working relationships and dealing tactfully with others.
• Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time and lift/carry heavy objects.

Nice-to-haves

• Prior experience in a hospital and/or campus setting working with multiple disciplines and vendors.
