About the position

The Brick Mason Apprentice position is a full-time, labor-intensive role aimed at training individuals in the masonry trade. The apprentice will work under the guidance of a Foreman, performing masonry tasks to meet the company's quality standards while ensuring safety and compliance with project specifications. This role offers opportunities for professional growth within the company and is ideal for those interested in historic masonry restoration.

Responsibilities

  • Perform masonry work according to the company's standards and specifications under the direction of the Foreman.
  • Report discrepancies and special conditions to the Project Manager.
  • Maintain a safe work environment and promote a 'safety first' attitude among the team.
  • Care for tools, equipment, materials, and the job site.
  • Familiarize with construction, alteration, repair, and installation of structures made of block, stone, brick, and concrete using hand and power tools.
  • Lay out foundations, shoot elevations with transit or level, and construct and set forms for foundations, headwalls, and curbs.
  • Select types of cement, plaster mortar, blocks, stone, or brick to be used.
  • Set stone, brick, and block while applying knowledge of stress, strain, and mix ratios.
  • Measure and cut stone, brick, and block according to specifications.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Requirements

  • Possess refined modern stone and brick masonry skills appropriate to apprenticeship level.
  • Able to meet all physical requirements, including climbing and working at heights and in confined spaces (may exceed 200 ft).
  • Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Observe and comply with all safety and project rules.
  • Ability to understand, follow, and transmit written and oral instructions and communicate effectively with management/supervision.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Clean Driver's License required.
  • Background check required.
  • A love for history and/or Historic Architecture is preferred.
  • Understanding of heritage masonry skills and techniques is an asset.
