About the position

This position is a temporary masonry role at Gateway National Recreation Area, primarily focused on performing various masonry tasks including construction, alteration, and repair of structures. The job is seasonal, typically running from May to November, and is open to U.S. citizens and certain federal employees. The role requires working with both historic and non-historic structures, utilizing a range of tools, and maintaining high standards of craftsmanship.

Responsibilities

• Perform masonry work such as constructing, altering, modifying, or repairing structures including pillars, mortar posts, and roofing.
• Work on both historic and non-historic structures, ensuring the ability to match texture and appearance of historic mortar joints.
• Use a full range of power and hand tools to complete projects.
• Plan, compute, and lay out projects while identifying material needs.
• Produce finished products with precise fits and accurate dimensions.
• Paint, decorate, and refinish various interior and exterior surfaces of buildings and facilities.
• Maintain, construct, repair, and alter a variety of masonry structures.
• Operate maintenance vehicles as required.

Requirements

• U.S. Citizenship is required.
• Ability to perform masonry duties with minimal supervision.
• Experience with historic and non-historic masonry work.
• Knowledge of materials and ability to use and maintain tools and equipment.
• Ability to interpret instructions and specifications, including blueprint reading.
• Physical ability to lift objects weighing over 50 pounds and perform tasks requiring climbing and bending.
