About the position

The Architect - WM Client Master position at Northern Trust involves a comprehensive understanding of technology decision processes, including aspects such as capacities, response times, and data interfacing. The role requires participation in building and maintaining vendor relationships, evaluating and selecting technologies that best fit business and project needs, and promoting the sharing of expertise through various means such as consulting, presentations, and documentation. The successful candidate will be a functional expert with both technical and business knowledge, capable of carrying out complex initiatives that involve multiple disciplines and ambiguous issues. In this role, the architect will display a balanced, cross-functional perspective, working closely with the business to enhance efficiency, effectiveness, and productivity. Strategic development, implementation, and administration of programs within functional areas are key responsibilities. Additionally, the architect will provide leadership and guidance to staff, fostering an environment that encourages participation, teamwork, and open communication. Candidates should possess deep knowledge of application or infrastructure systems architecture, with experience across multiple system technologies. Excellent consultative and communication skills are essential, as is the ability to work effectively with clients, partners, and IT management. Strong project management skills and analytical abilities are also required, along with knowledge of several high-level programming languages and Assembler language.

Responsibilities

  • Thoroughly understand decision process issues of technology choice, such as capacities, response time, data interfacing, client server communication, etc.
  • Participate in the building of new and ongoing vendor relationships.
  • Evaluate and select from existing and emerging technologies those options best fitting business/project needs.
  • Promote sharing of expertise through consulting, presentations, and documentation.
  • Act as an experienced, functional expert with technical and/or business knowledge and functional expertise.
  • Carry out complex initiatives involving multiple disciplines and/or ambiguous issues.
  • Display a balanced, cross-functional perspective, liaising with the business to help improve efficiency, effectiveness, and productivity.
  • Strategically develop, implement, and administer programs within functional areas.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to staff, fostering an environment that encourages employee participation, teamwork, and communication.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related discipline.
  • Experience in information system architecture methodologies, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Deep knowledge of application or infrastructure systems architecture, usually having experience with multiple system technologies.
  • Excellent consultative and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with clients, partners, and IT management and staff.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Strong analytical ability.
  • Knowledge of several high-level programming languages and Assembler language.
