About the position

The Master Level Community Support Specialist III position at BJC HealthCare is a full-time role dedicated to providing community support services to clients within the correctional system. This position is based at the St. Louis County jail located at 100 S Central Ave, Clayton, MO, and operates on a Monday to Friday schedule from 8 am to 4:30 pm, with no on-call duties, weekends, or holidays required. The primary responsibility of this role is to assist clients aged 18 and older by linking them to essential community resources, such as housing and food assistance, thereby facilitating their recovery from serious mental health challenges. As a Community Support Specialist, you will carry a caseload and be required to meet with clients in person regularly. This role involves utilizing treatment plan interventions tailored to individual strengths and needs, ensuring positive outcomes for complex clients. You will also be responsible for timely documentation of services, which includes detailing the need for services, interventions provided, and the client's response. Additionally, you will engage with individuals and referral sources following missed appointments to promote recovery and resiliency efforts, and provide mentorship and job shadowing to colleagues. In this position, you will receive in-depth training during your first 90 days, equipping you with the necessary skills to excel in this role. The training will focus on the unique challenges faced by individuals in the correctional system and the effective use of technology in service delivery. Related work experience with individuals suffering from mental health challenges is strongly preferred, as it will enhance your ability to connect with clients and support their recovery journey.

Responsibilities

  • Provides community support services to complex clients, including those on care plans, using treatment plan interventions that result in positive outcomes based on individual strengths and needs.
  • Completes timely documentation of services that clearly describe the need for the service, the intervention provided, the relationship to the treatment plan, the provider of the service, the date, the actual time and setting of the service, and the individual's response to the service.
  • Contacts individuals and/or referral sources following missed appointments to re-engage and promote recovery/resiliency efforts, supporting individuals in crisis situations.
  • Provides mentorship and job shadowing to community support colleagues.
  • Assists clinical teams by providing qualified mental health provider assistance, including assessment of access to services.
  • Completes annual assessments and other documentation of clients.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Human Services or a related field.
  • 2-5 years of relevant experience in community support or mental health services.
  • Licenses & Certifications: Class D (IL) or Class E (MO) license.
