About the position
The Master Plumber at Northeast Alabama Regional Medical Center is responsible for performing routine maintenance and repairs on various hospital equipment and services, specifically focusing on plumbing fixtures, hot and cold water piping lines, gas lines, and drainage systems. This role is crucial in ensuring the functionality and safety of the hospital's plumbing and medical gas systems, which include vacuum pumps and medical air pump systems. The Master Plumber will document all work performed using the computer work order system, meticulously recording the time and materials used for each task. This position also involves additional duties as assigned by the supervisor or director, emphasizing the need for flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic healthcare environment. In addition to routine maintenance, the Master Plumber will be responsible for performing repairs on plumbing and medical gas equipment, as well as monitoring the plumber apprentice program. The role includes the installation of new piping systems, which encompasses pressure piping, gravity piping, and air lines, all of which must adhere to current codes and regulations. The Master Plumber will conduct tests and verify the integrity of piping systems, including sprinkler and medical gas systems, ensuring compliance with safety standards. Preventative maintenance is a key aspect of this position, as the Master Plumber will be tasked with maintaining and repairing plumbing and support equipment. The role may also require welding, brazing, and cutting tasks, necessitating a high level of technical skill and safety awareness. Maintaining a safe and clean working environment is paramount, as is the responsibility for managing inventory supplies related to plumbing operations.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on hospital plumbing fixtures and systems.
- Document work results in the computer work order system, including time and material usage.
- Perform repairs on plumbing and medical gas equipment.
- Monitor the plumber apprentice program.

Requirements
- High school diploma or GED is required.
- Current Alabama master plumbing license or journeyman card in plumbing and gas fitting is required.
- Medical gas certification is preferred but not mandatory.
- Prefer two years of plumbing experience in an industrial or institutional setting.
